1.OBJECTIVES
- Students get acquainted with the basic physical
characteristics of the Earth and Earth phenomena. Presented are those fields of
geophysics, which are important for surveying.
2.VSEBINA
2.1 Summary of lectures
- Classification of geophysics;
- Seismology and seismic, Earth's construction, geotectonic
forces, faults tectonics;
- Earth's gravity field, gravity force, potential of
gravity force;
- Geometry of gravity field, level masses and plumb line,
gradient of gravity;
- Earth's gravity field with the help of spherical
functions, global geopotential models;
- Earth's shape, geoid, level ellipsoid, normal gravity
field;
- Irregularities of the Earth's gravity field: deviation of
the vertical line, gravity anomalies;
- Height systems, mean sea level;
- Determining the geoid, data types and methods to
determine geoid;
- Methods of measuring free-fall acceleration, absolute and
relative measurements, gravimeters;
- Gravimetric survey;
- Earth's magnetic field, physical basics, time and spatial
changes of the geomagnetic field, measuring the Earth's magnetism.
2.2 Summary of exercises
- Computational example of determining the geoid in several
ways,
- 24-hour observation of changes in magnetic declination,
observation data processing.

3.1 Pre-requisites
- Knowledge from mathematics and physics and all surveying
subjects;
3.2 Follow up
- The acquired knowledge helps to better understanding of
the study material at the subjects GPS and Geodesy II.

5. ENGAGEMENT OF STUDENTS
Processing of 24-hour measurements of the magnetic
declination and adjustment of the examples of geoid computations.
6. PARTICULARITIES
24-hour measurements of magnetic declination are carried
out at the geodetic point near the Zoo in Ljubljana.
